Let's Walk With Purpose

Image
Dedicated, Active and Supported Steps (DASS)   When transferring weight from one foot to the other it is important to be mindful to carry your body in an active and lifted manner.  It is best to have the head, torso, pelvis and legs aligned for the whole stepping moment. Your core is engaged, the stride is comfortably long and not overextended. Allow your arms to swing naturally in opposition to the legs.  Whether the speed of the walk is fast or moderate, your steps always have purpose in the walking moment. The chain of movements of your leg, foot, heel and ball of the foot arrive sequentially with lightness, purpose and support.  Be mindful of the alignment of the body while maintaining balance side to side, forward and back and at the same time being observant of your environment. Be cognizant not to pound your step downward and try to have a sense of stability and buoyancy in your gate. Walk with yourself, walk with others and travel light.
